Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and also as an United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants who are not legally documented, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. She gained a national profile for her provocative questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of assault on a woman.
